Many Dogs Aren't Under-Exercised, They're Under-Enriched

It's tempting to assume a restless, destructive dog just needs a longer walk. Physical exercise is only half the equation, and the missing half is usually mental.

Tired Body, Bored Brain

A dog can be physically worn out from a long walk and still completely understimulated mentally, since the same route every day doesn't ask much of them upstairs. Enrichment means giving them something to actually think through, not just distance to cover.

What Enrichment Actually Looks Like

A puzzle feeder that makes them work for dinner. A quick scent game hiding treats around a room. A new route with unfamiliar smells. Even five minutes of basic training. None of it needs to be elaborate to make a real difference.

The Payoff Is A Calmer Dog

Dogs who get regular mental stimulation tend to settle faster and show less destructive or anxious behavior overall. A short training session with a handful of treats does double duty here, tiring out the brain while reinforcing good habits at the same time.
